THE BIG FIVE

by Dr. George M. Wolverton, M.D.

Heart attacks, strokes, cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease claim the lives of nine out of ten Americans each year. However, these statistics could be much different. I believe the majority of these deaths could be prevented if people implemented several significant lifestyle changes, which I like to refer to as The Big Five

1.      Get your body alkaline.
People who maintain an alkaline body pH tend to live better, longer, by suppressing the growth of yeast, mold, and fungi in the body. When in overgrowth stages, these microscopic life forms weaken the body, making a person more susceptible to all sorts of diseases and health problems. Such conditions tend to occur in an acidic body environment.

An important step in keeping your overall body pH alkaline is to avoid eating foods that tend to make the body acidic. Problematic foods include white sugar, white flour, and foods that begin with the letter “c” (like cookies, cokes, chocolate, caffeine, and “c’alcohol”). For more information and suggestions on eating according to an alkalarian diet, read The pH Miracle, by Dr. Robert O. Young. In addition, ask at my office about my topic sheet on alkalinity.

2.      Eat organically and avoid pesticides and petrochemicals.
Around 1919 the soon-defunct Geneva Convention outlawed nerve gas. Today, however, we still use diluted forms of chemicals like nerve gas. We call them pesticides. When we eat non-organically grown foods, we are putting chemical toxins like pesticides and petrochemicals into our bodies. Such foods are often grown in nutrient-depleted soil and thus cannot provide all the phytonutrients we need from the food we eat.

Eating organically grown foods minimizes the chemical toxins we are putting into our bodies. Organic foods also tend to contain more of the phytonutrients we need, allowing all three trillion biochemical exchanges in each cell to function properly.

3.      Have Chelation Therapy.
Chelation Therapy helps create a pristine internal environment by pulling heavy metals out of the body. The biochemical sponge EDTA removes lead, mercury, aluminum, cadmium, and arsenic from the bloodstream. These toxins in essence put a “straight jacket” on the immune system, or “physician within,” so it cannot send out its leucotryines to clean toxins or “garbage” out of the circulation system and restore oxygen and nutrition to body parts. Removing the toxins through Chelation Therapy releases the “straight jacket” the toxins put on the immune system, allowing the immune system to do what it is supposed to do and to improve the functioning of the estimated three trillion biochemical exchanges in each cell in the body.

Chelation Therapy is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure performed in my office. In this therapy, EDTA is dripped into a patient’s bloodstream through an I.V. during a 1-1/2 hour period. I have chelated thousands of people through the years in conjunction with a wellness plan and have seen this therapy slow or even reverse a variety of health problems, in addition to helping patients generally feel better.

4.      Do aerobic exercise daily.
Twenty minutes of daily aerobic exercise is an inexpensive, important part of any wellness plan. It helps a person keep the heart healthy, maintain muscle and bone functioning, moderate body weight, and create a general sense of well-being.

Aerobic exercise increases the heart rate through moderate physical activity, using oxygen to produce energy in the muscle. The exercise should be continuous and performed to the extent of breathlessness, but not so breathless that you cannot carry on a conversation. Exercise can be in the form of a walk, jog, swim, bicycle ride, treadmill exercise, Jazzercise, calisthenics, or other activity.

5.      Take Juice Plus supplements.
I recommend using Juice Plus as a supplement to eating organically and according to an alkalarian diet. Juice Plus contains 17 naturally grown, pesticide-free and herbicide-free fruits, vegetables, and grains that have been juiced, spray dried, and placed in a capsule. These capsules contain the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and fiber found in fresh, raw produce. These nutrients are important for the health of all the body’s systems, including the immune and cardiovascular systems. Since it is virtually impossible to eat the large number of fruits and vegetables recommended by nutritionists, Juice Plus capsules can be the next best thing. Ask any of our staff how you can get this product.

I suggest that you seriously consider implementing The Big Five into your personal wellness program. I have seen these suggestions improve the quality and length of many lives, and I hope they will continue to help others as well.
